Ti e s a n d a n c h o r s 2 4 Number and arrangement of the anchors For façade scaffolding under 24.00 metres tall , the following arrangements are recommended in NF conditions of use. Non-covered scaffolding The theory: moor every 4.00 m for 2 side sections, moor every 8.00 m for middle sections, assemble in a zigzag for better load distribution. In practice: number of anchors on a large façade: at least 1 every 24 m 2 (excluding side sections). Covered scaffolding (covered with a canvas sheet or equipped with a net) The theory: moor every 4.00 m for all side sections, assemble in a zigzag for better load distribution. In practice: number of anchors on a large façade: at least 1 every 12 m 2 (excluding side sections). The canvas sheets or nets must fully cover the scaffolding, including the returns. In that case, the anchors can be subject to high stress. The ties transmits horizontal and vertical forces on the scaffolding to the anchor. The anchor is placed on the existing building to stabilize the scaffolding on it. Anchors and ties form an assembly that consolidates the scaffolding with the building whose facade it is erected against. They must on no account be dismantled while the scaffolding is in use. Anchors Anchors are important for the stability of the scaffolding. They must be sized, distributed and executed with care. They withstand tensile and compressive stress and must always be installed at right angles to a node using scaffolding couplers. Depending on the structure, make sure that the anchors bear the loads. On no account should the resistance of a anchor be less than 3 kN. For bearing horizontal loads parallel to the façade, the anchor tube must be fixed to the inner and outer standards. Allow for plane wind bracing when the structure is more than 0.40 m from the building. Special cases Certain structures require additional anchor ( A ). Protective screens, overhangs, pedestrian passages and roofer protections for instance require an anchor tie on each section of the scaffolding level with the aforesaid fixtures. Fit anchor ties at right angles to the stresses exerted by lifting equipment.
